Joined Tour de CURE AND RAISED $170,000 FOR DIABETES RESEARCH TO FIND A CURE
COOPER CITY, FL - March 11, 2009 -
On February 22nd, 568 cyclists gathered at C.B. Smith Park in Pembroke Pines to ride in the 2009 Southeast Florida Tour de Cure.
The American Diabetes Association (ADA) received more than $170,000 in pledged contributions to support programs and research to find a cure for diabetes, the fifth leading cause of death by disease in the United States. "The turnout was overwhelming," reported Alberto Fernandez, President of ANF Group and Chairman of the Tour. "The South Florida community has provided an incredible level of support for the American Diabetes Association. Tour de Cure cyclists, volunteers and sponsors are all helping to make a difference in the lives of people with diabetes."
Local businesses have pledged their commitment to the American Diabetes Association, including ANF Group, Memorial Healthcare System, Surgery Center of Weston and Broward County. Additional supporters include NBC's Joel Connable, who served as Special Guest Emcee, former Miami Dolphin Jason Taylor and Olympic swimming legend Gary Hall, Jr.
The American Diabetes Association is the nation's leading voluntary health organization supporting diabetes research, information and advocacy. Founded in 1940, the Association has offices in every region of the country, providing services to more than 800 communities.
